Meaning of Numbers In the Bible

Have you ever wondered what the meaning of numbers in the Bible may be? Growing up in a Christian home, my mother taught me that the number 7 in the Bible meant “perfection,” but that was it. One time, as an adult, my pastor brought a series of messages about Bible numbers, which fascinated me at the depth of God’s Word! I should have realized that if one number has a special meaning, so does every other number in the Bible!

Knowing the meaning of numbers in the Bible is a part of Bible study. I wrote several articles about the meanings of numbers in the Bible because I believe that God wants us to understand both numbers and the meaning behind them. He said in Ecclesiastes 7:27, “Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:” (KJV) God expects us to count both our, and His, numbers!

Every word of God is pure, so the numbers found in the Bible are not random; they are not part of holy writ “just because.” The numbers found in the Bible counted real things, but since the Bible is so deep, there is also a reason, at least one, and perhaps many more, behind each number in the Bible. Knowing at least the general meaning of a Bible number is a part of Bible study. This study of the meaning of numbers in the Bible is referred to as “Biblical numerology.”
